The Harambee Stars are set to make a comeback after a year-long suspension by FIFA. The Kenyan national team will be facing Iran on March 28, 2023, in Tehran for an international friendly match. This comes after a last-minute decision by Burundi to play Indonesia in Jakarta instead of playing Kenya in Nairobi.

Iran is currently ranked 24th in the FIFA Men’s World Ranking and is a world-class team. Harambee Stars Head Coach, Engin Firat, said that playing against such a tough opponent will push the players to the maximum, help them get familiar with high-level football and show them the difference between where they are and where they want to be.

Firat emphasized the importance of playing against higher-ranked teams as it will help Kenya be better prepared when it matters. He said, “Playing against world-class teams frequently will help us to be ready at the important moment when we play world cup qualifiers. We can play weaker teams and get easy victories, but this will not help us at the important moment.”

The team, consisting of local-based players and experienced foreign-based players, will report to camp on March 17, 2023, before traveling to Tehran on March 26, 2023, for the international friendly match.

This is a crucial match for Kenya, as it marks the country’s return to international football after a year-long suspension. Playing against Iran, a World Cup nation and one of the best teams in Asia, will provide the Harambee Stars with a valuable opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities on the world stage.

It is expected that the players will give their all during the match, putting their best foot forward and showcasing the talent and potential that Kenya has to offer. This international friendly match is an opportunity for Harambee Stars to demonstrate to the world that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of football.
